They are used with continuity editing to continue the scene seamlessly from one clip to another to create a since of cohesiveness.
Explain, in your own words, how does a Straight Cut transition compare to the Jump Cut and the Dissolve transitions?
Straight is continued and has no affect.
Jump has a affect and is a sudden stop from scene to scene and is to express something going forward in time.
dissolves are a cut that fades from black to white or white to black into the scene.
